Weekend To-Do

271/365

As the title says, this is my weekend to do list.

Before I took the picture I crossed off a couple things. I had Aristotle reading to finish and Kant to start. Both for philosophy. Which is the reason that I have been so tired lately I think. I have at least three more hours of reading each day I have my class, which thankfully is only two days a week. But it's still a lot to do. Especially since my other big reading class is on those days too. It's draining.

Fortunately I have wonderful friends who get me through it with a plethora of hilarious and ridiculous YouTube videos, love and more love. :)

(Also I crossed off my conducting evaluation. Did that too!)

Exhaustion is Mounting

269 & 270/ 365

My exhaustion level is ridiculous. I can't even focus on a simple assignment. So today you get a double post from yesterday and today. And minimal words

Yesterday Rachel and I had a study party. It was fun.

Today I was working on my personal statement for my practicum class. But I can't focus so I was writing badly. So I'm going to work on it tomorrow before the class where it's due. :P

Questionable Content

268/365

Today was a t-shirt and Converse kinda day.

please ignore the horrendous double chin
and yes I realize that the picture is centered on my chest area.

This shirt is inspired by one of the best comics I've ever read. I have talked about it before. I totally recommend that you read it. It's name is Questionable Content and it can be found here.

The "TEH" shirt is worn by one of the main character's Marten. And I felt it was appropriate today.

I'm tired. Classes are keeping me busy, which is good, but I'm so busy.

But I have wonderful friends who make me happy.

And I'm in a wonderful choir that also makes me happy.

And I have voice lessons first thing in the morning tomorrow, which still makes me happy.

I know that I have troubles and problems but my life is generally pretty good.

And remembering that makes me happy.

Monday: Straight Hair

267/365

So we're getting ready for Halloween here at The Muffin Top.

We know that it's still September. But we throw a party here at The Muffin Top. We had an epic Halloween Party last year. Complete with costume contest. So this year we are working on throwing an even better one.

Because costumes are required at this party I started thinking about what I wanted to be. I was thinking I would be a hippie because I have this excellent little crocheted shirt that I got from the Sweeney costume closet. But when Harmony saw my new hair she told me I should be Jareth from the movie Labyrinth.

 He looks like this. (He's played by David Bowie)

So we went thrifting on Sunday night (Question mark? Maybe. Sometime this weekend) to look for costumes and we found the right shirt and the right vest to make it work. I already have the leggings and the boots needed. So I bought them. And I'm going to be Jareth for Halloween.

I wasn't sure if my hair would work for the look so Harmony straightened my hair. And it looked FABULOUS. It's totally David Bowie hair. It works so well. I decided to leave it overnight and I still looked great the next day.

I had a good body image day on Monday. :)

Sunday: Conducting Prep

266/365

Sunday was my homework day. I had done most of it on Saturday but I finished it up on Sunday.

I especially worked on my conducting piece.

I really need to do well in Conducting this semester so I can pass my conducting jury and therefore be "ready to go out in the real world." According to my professors anyway.

So I planned it out. I even thought about it in the shower and all the ideas that came to me were really good and useful. So I felt really confident in it.

[TUESDAY NOTE: I conducted it today (because I am posting this on Tuesday) and it went pretty well. I was told that I was really prepared for it and I got some good feedback from my peers today. Some things that were said made me feel like I took GIANT steps backwards but after a good kick in the butt from my wonderful friend Megan (HI MEGAN) I realized that I'm actually ok.]

Saturday: BACONBACONBACON

265/365

So to finally celebrate our reunion and me making it through the summer, Harmony and I had an epic brunch.

And it involved scrambled eggs. With cheese.

Hash browns.

Toast with Lingonberry

And BACON!

What is on my plate right now is the last couple pieces of bacon and a couple more hash browns. I would have taken a picture of the first plate but I was so excited and hungry that I just ate it.

And it was delicious.

And I was so happy.

Because I ate bacon.

And it was a greasy meal.

But we didn't care. :)

Eeeek!

Barbershop

263/365

Harmony and I have a new roommate this year. His name is Jon and he's pretty awesome. We're really enjoying having him here.

And today he turned our bathroom into a barber shop.

He brought his friend Madison over (I know him from choir) and informed me that he was going to give Madison a haircut.

So he did.

Madison got a great new hair cut. He actually kinda ended up looking like Captain America. The actor's name is escaping me right now. But it looked great.

So speaking of choir, I am the Alto section leader this year! I am super excited about what I can bring to the table and see what the section will end up being like. :)

Roxie

262/365

So earlier today Harmony and I decided to play Two Truths and A Lie. We both had the same ones. Here's the list.

1. I sweat like a pig.
2. I rescued a dog.
3. I did my homework.

One of these (at that point of the day) was a complete and utter lie.

If you guessed number three, you are absolutely correct.

So on my way to class this morning, I was passing in front of my old dorm and there was a little Boston Terrier running around. I thought that it might have been our neighbor's dog Eddie. But I didn't have time to run him home because I had to go to class, so I just moved on, hoping that he would find his way home.

While I'm in class my pocket is vibrating non-stop. People are calling me, texting me, leaving voice mails. Non stop vibrations coming from my pocket. I get out of class and I see that this little dog has been taken into custody at my old dorm and that my friends from there want to know if it's my dog or what. So I call Jen back and say that I can come get the dog and take him home.

She informs me that the chick who brought the dog in came back and took the little guy on a walk.

That makes me mad.

If it's not your dog, don't take it on a walk. Especially if there is someone present who may know this dog and know where he goes.

So long story short, Harmony gets dragged into the picture and we discover that this little doggy is not our neighbor's dog, but that we are willing to take this little girl in (We were informed that it was a girl.) because animals are not allowed in the dorms.

So we get this little girl home, give her a bath, give her some food and water and decide to take her to the vet after our classes were over to get her scanned for a micro chip.

We named her Roxie.

So cute.

So I'm getting ready to go to choir and I took Roxie out for a potty break before she gets stuck in the bathroom for a couple hours. While she's wandering around looking for a place to do her business, one of my co-workers from campus safety comes up and asks if she's my dog. I tell her no and she says that some one came up to her while she was working and asked if they had seen a Boston Terrier wandering around. She got their address, spotted me with Roxie and very graciously took her off my hands and took her back home.

So the story ended well, and our new little friend got home safe and sound.

The end.

The Man Wall

261/365

This is The Man Wall.

I'm pretty sure I've posted about said wall before, but this evening, instead of doing homework, Harmony and I pulled pictures out of old Cosmopolitans and put them up on the wall.

It was obviously a quite enjoyable process. There are some funny ones but there are quite a few more pictures of half naked, shiny, muscle-y men. Many of which are right outside of my door so it's the first thing I see when I leave my room.

I don't really have a problem with it.

Monday: Rusty Pup

260/365

This little cutie pie is Rusty.

He is my cousin's five month old Golden Retriever puppy. He is such a sweetie. He's super mellow (unless he's meeting you for the first time and then he gets so excited he pees. A LOT.) and he doesn't bark much according to my aunt. He is just a happy puppy.

Seeing him and interacting with him he completely bowled me over as I was trying to take a decent picture of him it made me realize that I want a dog badly. I love dogs. I've had cats all of my life and I love them too. I'm going to have cats at some point in my life. But I also really want a dog.

There's a good chance I'm going to be living on my own pretty soon and I'll want some sort of companionship. If I get a dog I'll have that feeling of being guarded and I may feel safer. But realistically, if I want to get a pet right out of college, I'll need to get a cat. I'll be super busy so I won't be able to be at home to give the dog the companionship he or she will need. Cats are pretty self reliant though.

I even have some names picked out. Pascal, Rose, or Tink for a cat. And I will have a Malamute who's name will be Mo. I've known that for some time. :)

Did I Go To The Gym Today?:  Nope. But I practiced so much I was late for class.

Sunday: At The Twenty-Fifth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!

259/365

 On Sunday I drove into Tacoma to see a couple friends of mine from Sweeney Todd in the show The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

 Hands down, it is one of the most amusing musicals I have ever seen in my entire life.

My friends were brilliant and the rest of the cast was as well. I laughed so hard and I even teared up a little bit.

The I Love You Song is one of the most emotionally charged songs I've heard in a musical and I've heard a lot of emotionally charged songs.

 If you ever get the chance to see it, see it. It's a wonderful show.

This is my Happy Tired Face

258/365

This is my Happy Tired Face.

This is what I look like after getting up at 6:15 to get ready for work, working for four hours, reading Aristotle and then going to the NOMT dance audition.

Now I have very little dance experience. I managed to make it through Urinetown and Peter Pan in high school by working so hard and paying super close attention, and the other two shows I've been in (Les Miserables and Sweeney Todd) aren't really dance musicals. So I felt a little out of my element here.

I was just doing my best and having fun though. And it really was. There were several people I know/am familiar with so it wasn't like I didn't have anyone to talk to in our random break times. And I worked my ass off. I tried so hard and I honestly felt like I was doing a really good job for the amount of dance experience I have. I was just trying to remember to put character into the dances as well as the choreography that we'd learned about ten minutes before hand.

So for auditions there's about two and a half hours of everyone doing basic dances. We did a number to a Lion King song, a partner dance to a song from Guys and Dolls and then a hip hop/salsa-y number from In The Heights. So after the everyone part, they call out a few certain people to stay after and do some harder choreography. I wasn't expecting much and the "secondary callback" doesn't really have anything to do with the final casting results. So I was really surprised when I was asked to stay! I was a little worried but then I decided to just have an obscene amount of fun.

The choreography we did was the first woman's confession in The Cellblock Tango from the show Chicago! Like, actual choreography from the movie. IT WAS SO GREAT!

Watch 1:36 - 2:35 to see what I DID! WHAT I DANCED! AND I ACTUALLY DID IT TOO!

As you can tell I am very please with myself!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kelsey Page
Did I Go To The Gym Today?: Didn't need too. I danced my butt off for FOUR HOURS!
Friday: Practicum and NOMT
257/365
My Friday was quite the experience. I got to sleep in for a little bit. When I woke up I was going to do some of my philosophy reading but I ended up doing some other things. They weren't unproductive, but they really weren't all that productive.
So then I went to practicum class and we talked about the strike that's going on in a city close to us. It was really pretty interesting to talk about strikes and what we should do in case we as new teachers are ever caught up in one.
And then I had to frantically try and get to my practicum school in less time than I thought I had. AND THEN I got stuck in HORRIBLE traffic and I ended up being late.
I will admit that I got a little flustered and anxious on the way there, but when I got there, the teacher I'm doing practicum with was SO chill and relaxed about it. She said it was all fine and that I really didn't need to worry. So I got to watch her last class and a half of the day. She has such a calm way of teaching and even when she was dealing with her trouble makers she stayed so chill.
I now know why I was put in her classroom for practicum, other than the physical reason that I had her on my list. I've always been kind of high strung and anxious and it's hard for me to relax in teaching settings, so I think that God is trying to tell me that it's ok for me to relax when I'm teaching by giving me first hand experience with a teacher who has been doing this for twenty years.
After practicum was done I headed home and prepared for my NOMT audition. NOMT is Night Of Musical Theater. It's a yearly Broadway review type show and it's pretty popular. I auditioned a couple years ago but didn't make the cut. I wanted to try again this year especially because my voice has grown and developed so much in the last couple of years. So I went and sang my heart out.
I sang "I Don't Know How To Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar. It went really well and then there were little group singing things. A harmony song and just some basic sight reading stuff. We read Velma Kelley's part from Cellblock Tango (from the show Chicago), and I swear I'm not being conceited, but I KILLED IT! I felt really good about myself afterwards!
It was a pretty good day all in all!
Thursday: Teaching Time
256/365
I have been so bad at updating my blog. I'm taking the pictures on the day but I get so busy that when I have time to post the blog, it's super late and I'm so tired. Once I really get into the flow of school it will be better. I've made it this far, I'm not gonna stop now!
SO
On Thursday I had to teach my ten minute lesson! So naturally I had to dress the part. I bought this dress at Ross over the summer and I hadn't really had an opportunity to wear it yet, so I got to wear it for my lesson!
It's so comfortable, and if I had wanted to, I could have worn it the rest of the day with no issue, but I had worn a dressy thing with my boots the day before and my feet couldn't hack another day of heels, so I dressed super down. Like, leggings and plaid flannel dressed down.
Hey, I was comfy!
My lesson went well. It was a "baseline" test so it wasn't like I was going to fail it or anything. But I definitely wasn't one of the killer lessons.
But that's ok!
Crazed
255/365
I'm sorry I've been crappy about posting. I've been up late the past few nights either at work or working on homework.
These are all of the tabs open on my computer right now.
I'm pulling a lesson plan out of a place that lessons should never be pulled from.
But I'm almost done. One more section on Bollywood. Then I can fine tune and then shower and go to bed.
I will be tired tomorrow though.
Hopefully I'll have a better post for you tomorrow!
I'm trying really hard!
Homework and Rememberance
252/365
This is the little homework nook I've created for myself. It's my zebra print butterfly chair and I put my feet up on my computer chair. It's pretty cozy and I got a lot of work done here this weekend. All of my homework.
And today we remember the fallen. The brave. The honorable.
Never forgetting.
More Aristotle
251/365 I spent most of my day today working on homework. Which meant more Aristotle.
But I got it all done today and I actually understood a lot of it! It made me happy. Here are a couple of quotes I found interesting today. "The same is true for [those who find enjoyment in] hearing; no one is ever called intemperate for excessive enjoyment of songs or playacting, or temperate for the right enjoyment of them." - Aristotle, Nichomachean Ethics Or in this case amusing. ‎" In sources of pleasure in amusements let us call the intermediate person witty, and the condition wit; the excess buffoonery and the person who has it a buffoon; and the deficient person a sort of boor and the state boorishness." - Aristotle, Nichomachean Ethics ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kelsey Page Did I Go To The Gym Today?: Nope. Friday: Starbucks
250/365
Harmony and I went to Starbucks Friday morning to work on homework. She doesn't have wireless in the house yet so she wanted to go there to do some stuff. And I went with her just for the hell of it.
It was super fun. It was nice getting to spend some time with her after a long summer.
I had a gouda, bacon and egg sandwich, black cherry yogurt with granola and this wonderful little drink.
The Salted Caramel Frappucino.
I drank it all. And I was hopped up on so much sugar. It was ridiculous.
I want another one.
Thursday: Back To School Shopping
249/365
I finally did all of my back to school shopping!
I bought my new binders and only one new notebook. I'm working on filling up the notebooks I had and will use for the rest of my time here at my school.
I also wanted to buy a big fancy planner. Megan (Who has been here many times) had one last year and I loved the idea of it. It is monthly, weekly and hourly. It's super helpful. Especially with the color coding I'm doing.
But then I realized as I was driving home that I had bought the planner that starts in 2012.
And it is still 2011.
It's ok though. I made it work. :)
Aristotle and Aches
248/365
Homework has started back up again with classes. I spent a good long time this afternoon reading form my Philosophy class.
Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics is what I'm reading now. It's pretty interesting actually. Most of it went right over my head but what I did catch was interesting.
So I wrote copious notes on sticky notes and put them in the reading. I have study questions to go along with the reading and both of our exams are open note open book take home tests so after classes I'm going to write up things and make them cohesive so I can use all of my answers for the test!
Also today I've been doing some thinking.
Romance-wise I've never really been successful. And I thought/am thinking that I could really have something going for me with a guy.
And this summer I gave him space based on a conversation we had and I've seen him a bunch since we've both gotten back to campus. And he's super busy because he can't say no and he's in charge of a million things so he's super stressed out and not his usual self.
And I kinda want to figure out where I stand with him and what our future is going to be. But because he has this busy life I don't know when we can do that.
So I've been feeling incredibly lonely and like something's missing from my life. Like a tangible ache. And I'm not in a place where I'm ready for a boyfriend or a relationship but I at least want to build something.
Hang out more. Have someone come over or I go over there to do homework. Movie nights with friends. Spend time together. Build a relationship. Eventually move to dates. The whole she-bang.
I dunno. It's weird.
I'm 21 years old and I've never been on a date.
Hopefully that it will make the first one I actually go on even more wonderful...
What about you readers? What has your favorite date been like?
Sound Off!
244/365
So it's Welcome Weekend right now.
And this is the weekend before classes start where the first years get a chance to get to know campus and go do activities where they get to know other first years.
It's also a big competition weekend for each of the residence halls.
One of the main events is called Sound Off. This is where the RHC writes a song about their residence hall to the tune of popular (or not so much) songs. Then the first years and any other residents who want to participate go down to Foss Field and shouts sings their song for everyone to hear. The RHA then votes to see who wins.
I participated my first year and then after that not so much.
But I did this year.
It was fun. Though it would have been more fun if I had been standing by my friends.
I got a cool Commuter Student shirt!
This was before I got my face painted.
Pinterest
243/365
So I am now officially addicted to Pinterest.
I'm not kidding. It's more fun than StumbleUpon. And I love me some StumbleUpon.
It's just a fun way to find pictures and ideas and things that make you happy and put them on "boards" for you to view at any time.
Today I added a new board which I called "Icons"
It's full of women who I find beautiful and inspire me to find my own style and feel beautiful in my own way.
I haven't had much time to add more but this is just the beginning. I'm super excited to find more.
I totally recommend you find a friend to invite you to play on Pinterest.
You'll love it.
My Picture Wall
242/365
So all last year I had my picture wall. It's set up in front of my desk so when I'm sitting there (which is most of the time) working on stuff I can just look up and see all of my friends looking out at me and smiling. It's such a great feeling. There are pictures from my sophomore and freshman year of college, as well as a few from high school. I also have some pictures that I've pulled out of magazines and some quotes that I found that made me happy.
This summer I ordered about fifty more pictures from this last year alone. And I got them in the mail the other day. Today, I put them all up and expanded my picture wall.
These pictures on my wall are the faces of the friends that I will have for the rest of my life. And I love that. I love seeing them so happy and I love seeing me so happy. In every single one of these pictures on my wall I am happy. And I love that.
It's a good feeling seeing yourself be so happy. Also seeing your friends so happy. That's the best feeling of all.
I will be sad when I have to take these pictures down at the end of this next year, but maybe when I move into my new apartment I can put them up again. I'll have to decide if I want them up like I do now, or pick a select few for frames and put the rest in photo albums.
I don't know yet. I won't know until I get there.
Until then I will enjoy having them up on my wall.
In other news I got to see my friend Ben today! He moved into his new house today so I got to run over and see him. Rachel, Megan and our friend Anna came too! It was nice seeing him and getting to talk to him in person again. He's my college little brother. He picks on me alot. :P
Now I'm watching The Orphanage with Rachel.
I'm glad that I'm surrounded by people I love.
It helps me remember that I am worth it. That I am loved. And that I can love myself.
Easy Breezy Beautiful
Cover Girl.
This is the brand of make-up that I use. Most of my daily make-up is made by Cover Girl.
The liquid foundation is the new Nature Luxe stuff. I've never really liked liquid before. I tried it once and it didn't really work for me. So for years I used Bare Minerals powder. But for Sweeney I needed liquid and I picked this up on a whim. It's really nice and light and it totally works for me.
The powder is just the general powder. No biggie. It really helps to smooth out my complexion so I use it over my liquid.
The blush I don't use every day. I've had this particular compact of blush for quite sometime. I have a fairly ruddy complexion so I don't really need the addition of pink to my cheeks. So when I do use it, it pops even more.
Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara. If I had to pick one make-up item to wear for the rest of my life it would be this. My eyelashes are really light so when I wear mascara it really helps my eyes to pop. It's so perfect for my lashes.
The Cover Girl Lip Perfection lipstick is a new addition. I don't actually use it often but I have several shades. It stays on fairly well but if you do have to reapply, it isn't too thick.
So that's my usual dose of make-up.
In other news, I was back at Hinderlie helping them finish up before move-in day tomorrow!
So I was standing on a chair painting the outlines of the kids from Narnia's faces and all of a sudden I realized that I was falling. I have no idea how it happened but I'm pretty sure that I tried to shift myself in mid air. I got tangled up in the chair I was standing on, banged my leg and foot and got brown paint all over myself and the carpet.
It was kinda epic but as the night went on, I insisted on continuing to help. I monitored myself to make sure that I hadn't hit my head but I hadn't. I did tweak my neck and back though. I noticed that as the night went on. My foot hurts too.
Hopefully after I shower and sleep I'll feel better. And I'm not going to do anything tomorrow either so if I still hurt I can take care of myself. I am going to help with Sound Off rehearsal though! It's going to be so fun!
