Secret Santa

331/365

For our big Christmas concerts we do Secret Santa within our choirs. I know that my person doesn't ready my blog, but just in case (because I am friends with them) I won't say their name.

It's fun to go out and buy little things for them to entertain them during the Christmas concerts. Some people go really far all out and others do smaller things. I like being able to give gifts so I do a little more. But really it's about bringing our choir together!

Tomorrow is our first concert in Portland and we won't be getting back until midnight so I won't post until Thursday, BUT with lots of pictures!

Christmas and Crafts

329 & 330/365

Christmas has arrived at The Muffin Top (which is what we call our little home.)

A fun picture of our Christmas tree!

And this is the craft that I'm working on right now. You "friendship bracelet" your ear buds and keeps them from getting tangled. So that's what I've been working on for the past couple of days!

Sorry it's late and not very detailed. I'm in a really weird place right now with school and how I'm feeling about it.....

The Dreaded Philosophy Final

328/365

It's coming. Closer and closer.

Yet I don't have to worry as much about it because I'm two thirds of the way done with it!

Yes ladies and gentlemen. I spent most of my day today working on my final. I did half of the short answers and three fourths of the essay. All I have left is the du Beauvoir sections. And I can do that tomorrow after work!

I'm exhausted but I would rather be done with this now and worry about my final philosophy presentation along with a few other minor things in the coming weeks. But those won't be as stressful as my conducting final. I need to go meet with my choir director about it all and really practice the next few days so I'll be ready....it's gonna drive me crazy.

Turkey Day! Happy Happy Turkey Day! Lots of Yummy Turkey Day!

325, 326 & 327/365

Thanksgiving Weekend. The weekend that I have been looking forward to for several weeks now. I was so happy that it was here that I sang the words in the Post Title for about half an hour straight. If you ask Megan she'll tell you. She was present as I was doing so. Hahaha. The weekend isn't over yet thankfully, but I do have some homework to do over the next couple of days but I have the time and I can just relax. None of it is pressing, but if I get it done by Sunday I will be the happiest I've been this year. So that's my ultimate goal. (More on this later.) SO onto the pictures.

Wednesday

I only had one class and then I was heading north with Megan and her sister Linnea to their house for Turkey Day. I am so blessed to have such a good friend that is willing to invite me and then for her to have such amazing parents to say "Yes you can bring a friend home." I am so lucky. That first night we went out to our favorite bar in Seattle, Tini Biggs. We met up with a couple of their friends from high school so we had a decent sized group that night.

I started my night with a Dirty Girl Scout. Espresso vodka, chocolate liqueur, heavy cream, green creme de menthe, and a graham cracker rim. It. Was. So. Good. SO GOOD. I will get it again some time.

Megan was the DD that night so she only had one drink. It's our favorite at Tini Biggs, The French 75. Gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, champagne and a lemon twist. Super yum.

This is Linnea. Megan's twin. She's older by five OR four minutes. (Depending on who you ask.) She started  with a Raspberry Basil Smash. It was super good. (We all played pass the drink.) Later she had an Aloe Martini which was actually pretty interesting. I wouldn't order it but it wasn't bad.

This was my second drink. Megan and I play this game where we pick a drink for each other and we're not allowed to tell what it is until we take a sip. This was the Tequila Old Fashioned. Tequila, bitters, and Orange Peel. AND brandied cherries. (WHICH WERE SO GOOD! I could have just eaten those all night.)

Thursday

TURKEY DAY! We "slept in" after not going to bed until 3:00 am (Megan and I stayed up and watched X-Men: First Class). So we got up around 9:30 and ate a quick Egg McMuffin and then we started off on preparations! I peeled a HUGE giant bag of potatoes for mashed 'tatoes, Megan chopped dried fruit for a salad and we watched as the Cider Glazed Turkey got put in the oven. It was a beautiful thing. Then we started in on their Thanksgiving tradition of a puzzle, and then Megan and I recorded one of the covers we've been working on!

Megan and I also decided on this night that we wanted to try and replicate the French 75. So we got out the GIANT Shaker....

And the ingredients. (See above.) So we mixed it up, tried it, and were immediately crushed. Not the same taste. Not nearly as sweet. So we tried a couple other things like no lemon juice, extra sugar and then maraschino cherry juice. Again, no dice, but it wasn't as bad. This is what the second round looked like after  mixing it all up. It looks super pretty. We couldn't decide what to name it (not that we'll make it again.)

This is Gail and Buzz, Megan and Linnea's parents. They are super amazing. Gail is just so sweet and Buzz is super funny. They are standing with the completed turkey (and it was SO yummy!!!!!)

This is what the centerpieces looked like. We had fourteen people at the table in all so there were several along the table. It's very pretty. :)

So for the rest of the night it was just food and more food and drinks and merriment and the puzzle. We finished the 1,000 piece puzzle with the assistance of all fourteen people at some point and it was a great victory when we finished it. Megan and I finished our night with the cartoon version of The Secret Garden, granted we both fell asleep in the middle of it. It was a glorious Turkey Day.

Friday

At some point early this morning Linnea came down to wake Megan and I up to go Black Friday Shopping. Both Megan and I groaned (we refrained from muttering obscenities) said no and went back to sleep. Then we woke up, finished The Secret Garden, ate apple pie for breakfast, and then I had to head home. I unpacked and finished a book that I had borrowed from Megan and then I dove into homework.

This is the list I had for myself.

I finished my chapter 8 reflections and figured out what I wanted to do for my adaptive prototype. Granted it took me three hours to finally finish them BUT I did it. Now I can really focus in on my philosophy test and conducting as well as choir music. But those are all very attainable for two days.

I've had a really great weekend so far. I do have to go to work tomorrow and Sunday but other than that I can just kind of kick back and take my time with the homework. :)

SO BEHIND!

321, 322, 323, & 324/ 365

I AM SO BEHIND! I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry. Megan's yelled at me enough already. (HEY GURRL)

And I don't know how much I'll post until Saturday because I'm going to Megan's house (HEY GURRL) for Turkey Day!

But ANYWAY! Here are the pictures from Saturday, Sunday, Monday AND today!

Saturday

I went shopping with Megan. (HEY GURRL.) We were both in need of some very necessary undergarments so we went to the only place that gives a good, long lasting bra (In my opinion), the one, the only Victoria's Secret. I won't tell you how much I spent, but I will tell you that it was a little more than I expected....

Sunday

This was mostly a homework/relaxing day. I was going to go to my University's a cappella groups concert that night and then go to Megan's house (HEY GURRL) to work on a project and then spend the night. But while I was doing homework and making my way through my To-Do list, I watched "Once Upon a Forest" a movie from my childhood. I found it in the $5 box at Walmart and I was so excited.

Monday

Monday was a normal school day (more or less) but because my very bestest friend Maurine (HEY GURRL) was sick and in the hospital (she's totally ok. No worries) I wanted to send her some love from her family at my school. (She went here freshman year but then moved to another school out of state our junior year) So a bunch of people signed cards and I put them in the mail. Happy Turkey Day Moe! Feel Better!

Tuesday (Today!)

Another normal school day. Frustrations are rising in one of our classes though so it's been kinda rough the past few weeks. But I got home this evening and made myself a little Mac and Cheese with hamburger. It's a  good way for me to get protein. Very enjoyable. And delicious.

Well now that I'm done updating (for now) I'm gonna go pack for Megan's house (HEY GURRL) before I go to a concert. Then I'll come home and finish that up before bedtime.

Kelsey and Megan

319 & 320/365

I've been spending a lot of time with Megan lately. Not that it's a bad thing. It's a great thing.

We've known each other since our freshman year but we really didn't start to spend time together until last year. And the rest, as they say, is history.

We made cookies and watched The Secret Garden and worked on a project on Thursday night.

And this morning we worked on that same project again. In a study room. This is how we felt about it.

Philosophy

318/365

This is the very last chapter of the very last book I have to read for philosophy. And it was only four pages long.

I'm done with the reading.

HA!

The End and Beginning

316 & 317/365

So yesterday was my second to last day at practicum. The picture is of the portable where my practicum teacher teaches, and where I have been teaching and learning the past few months.

I have loved every second of it and I was so sad to say goodbye to my regular classes of third graders and kindergartners. On Friday I will say goodbye to my regular classes of sixth graders. It's so weird to think that the next step is student teaching...

And for today, I have no picture. I have the trailer for The Hunger Games. Because it was SO GOOD!

Final Semester of Classes

315/365

This just a basic (VERY BASIC) look at what my spring semester will look like. What I have so far is Methods and Materials K-9 on Monday and Wednesday, Education Psych on Tuesday and Thursday, Choir Monday through Thursday and my Abuse and Neglect class is the first three Saturdays of the semester.

I still have to add my voice and piano lessons, as well as my work schedule, but other than that I have plenty of time for gym time AND practice time too! It's good times and I am happy as can be.

It is a weird feeling though that I've scheduled my final semester of classes at my school. I love it here. It's been my home for almost three and a half years and it's strange to think that I only have a year left to call myself a college student. It's gone by so fast and I've loved pretty much every minute of it here. It's safe to say that Washington is now my home and I hope that I get to stay up here and teach. Although I won't limit myself and say that I will stay here. I love the Pacific Northwest. It fits who I am and I would love to settle down here and start a family.

Again, it's weird to think about "settling down." I know i have many many years ahead of me, but the thoughts do cross my mind! It's what I want in life, other than being a music teacher. I want the big family, so of course it will cross my mind. It doesn't help that Harmony and I talk about what our kids will be like together. We predict that we will make them spend so much time together that they will HATE really dislike each other. It's just funny. :)

A Million and One Things

311, 312, 313 & 314/365

So many things have happened since Tuesday and because of that I've just been super busy. But here are the pictures now. WITH the stories!

This first picture is from Wednesday. I had a strange day on Wednesday and it ended up just really sucking. So I just wanted to sit and not do anything. I ended up wandering down to Megan's house and we just laid on her bed and talked and snuggled. It was super fun and I felt way better. So the below is a picture taken by Megan of us "sleeping."

Thursday I took Megan and Ben over to my aunties house because I was dog sitting for Rusty. (I totally had permission to bring people over. Don't worry.) And at first we couldn't get in because my key was too new so Ben had to jump the fence and "break in" through a window that was unlocked. It was an adventure. So then we just relaxed and ate some lasagna and played with Rusty. And then there was A LOT OF some alcohol. So because of that I didn't take a picture on Thursday. So the next two pictures are of the day after.

So Friday Megan and I didn't have class so we decided to lock ourselves in a study room in the library. We took our morning after supplies with us. Juice, bread and Cheez-Its. It was totally ridiculous.

The reason we had to go to a study room was because we have to create a 45 minute elementary program and to do this we had to look at some music books that are used in elementary school classrooms. It was a good productive day. We're almost done with them, so life is good.

Today I went to a Dalcroze Workshop (Dalcroze is a method of teaching music, just like Orff and Kodaly.) I went with some of my own peers (Michelle, Angela, Laura and Allison) and we ran into a few other classmates, but the best part of the day was meeting my Twin, Adam.

Aren't we just the cutest? You can't tell us apart. We even had the same color on. He's just a really big sweetheart and we had a really good time together. We're going to have to hang out with him again some time.

I've had a pretty good weekend. I had a big birthday dinner on Friday night and it was good to just kinda hang out with some wonderful people and relax. I haven't done any homework at all, but I don't have that much. I'll be able to do my philosophy reading and a few other things tomorrow evening, (after my philosophy presentation group meets. :P)

Philosophy....

310/365

This is my last philosophy book.

It's the only one we have by a woman and it was written in 1945 (ish. After World War 2)

It's pretty good. A little more modern so it's easier to follow. But I don't care. I'm just ready to be done with this class.

Almost done.

:P

Happy Birthday to Me!

309/365

Today is my birthday! I am Twenty Two years old. Which is really weird to think about. It's even weirder to say out loud.

But I've had a wonderful and happy birthday.

I got to spend all day with my practicum teacher in the classroom and I got to teach a little more today and I saw more students. It was really fun. I know that I will be able to teach elementary and be perfectly happy, because I saw all sorts of wonderful kids today. Some of them were a little a lot crazy and some were just so sweet I almost cried, but it was just a wonderful day.

And then I drove back to school and went to choir, where I learned that I got a solo for our big Christmas concerts (which is a BIG deal) and had a wonderful choir rehearsal. Then I got to have a fun dinner with Harmony, Julia and Eric. Now I'm just relaxing and taking it easy before my week really takes off.

So my picture of the day is on my present from my parents. It's called a "Wish-a-Little" and it's from Disney.  The one I got is Tinkerbell. You can open her up and inside was a little piece of paper and a necklace. It's said that if you write a wish on the paper, put it back in your Wish-a-Little and then wear the necklace, your wish will come true. And the more you wear the necklace the more likely your wish will come true.

So I will be wearing my necklace A LOT.

:)

Birthday With My Grandparents

308/365

Today is the day before my birthday! And I spent it with my grandparents.

They took me to brunch at Shenanigans and it was really good. There was all sorts of yummy things and we ate until we were stuffed. Literally stuffed. So much good stuff. I think my favorite was the bacon. For buffet bacon, it was super good. Crispy and everything.

Then we went back to their house and I opened my present! They got me a new portable DVD player and it's really fancy! It has an LCD screen and it swivels. Like, can turn all the way around. It's really cool!

Then we just sat around and chatted and then we had tomato soup and grilled cheese. It was really nice to just spend time with them. I've been so busy lately that I haven't been able to see them and I was so glad that I got all of my homework out of the way so I was able to!

Tomorrow is my actual birthday. Twenty Two Years Old! :) Super excited. Can't wait! I get to spend all day at my practicum school and then come back to campus and go to choir. It's a perfect day.

So before bed tonight I'm watching Bridesmaids and relaxing.

Caprese

307/365

If I had to pick one salad to eat for the rest of my life, it would be a caprese salad.

Fresh tomatoes, Fresh basil, Fresh mozzarella and a balsamic reduction. It's super refreshing and so delicious. I love tomatoes anyway. When I was a baby my parents would fill my high chair tray with cherry tomatoes and I would eat them all, until my mouth was raw from the acid.

Today for a snack/lunch I sliced a couple of Roma tomatoes and drizzled some balsamic vinaigrette over them and then sprinkled some dried basil.

It really really needed the mozzarella and fresh basil rather than the dried stuff, but it was still a pretty good thing to eat. It was also a healthier option than other things I could have eaten. :)

As Tyra would say...

306/365

It's Beauty Shot Day!!!

I felt particularly pretty today. My hair was doing just the right thing and my face has been pretty clear for the past few weeks because I changed what face wash I was using.

And I've been thinking of my self as beautiful more and more anyway, so I think it was ok for me to take a "Beauty Shot" instead of doing homework.

I am also becoming more and more determined to go along with my tattoo idea...

:)

The Green Mile

305/365

Sixty Days. That's how many I have left!

Anyway. Today I shall be talking about the movie The Green Mile.

It stars Tom Hanks and Michael Clark Duncan and Bonnie Hunt and a slew of other great actors in a really touching story that was originally a novel by Stephen King.

Paul Edgecomb is a man who works on Death Row in the deep south and they call the particular cell block he works on "The Green Mile" because of the linoleum that they had in the block. When a six foot eight inches tall black man named John Coffey is put on death row for the rape and murder of two little girls, Paul and the other men on The Mile soon find out that not everything is as it seems and that miracles can happen anywhere and everywhere.

It's really touching and very well done. It keeps you interested through the very end. It's been out for years but it's still good.

The Book I'm Enjoying

304/365

This is the book that I've been really enjoying lately.

I bought it sometime last year and I read it in a couple days. It's that good. I love reading and I love a good book but it isn't very often that a book will suck me in and I can just get through it all in about one or two days.

It's really well written and honestly it's kind of hard to explain. The author is really attached to Jane Eyre and books of that sort, so it's kind of that story.

The narrator of the book, Margaret Lea, is a young biographer. She works in her fathers bookshop. One day she gets a letter from a woman named Vida Winter, who is a big time author. Miss Winter is known for telling people who interview her different stories about her past and where she came from. But because she is getting old and is quite ill, she finally wants to tell the truth and she picks Margaret. So Margaret gets to hear Miss Winter's true story, "...featuring the beautiful and willful Isabelle, the feral twins Adeline and Emmeline, a ghost, a governess, a topiary garden, and a devastating fire." (From the back cover of the book.) It's really quite interesting and I do recommend it full heartedly.

The Last of the Past

302 & 303

These are the last of the pictures from my past that I have collected. I'll be moving on to other things (I don't know what but it'll be great hopefully....)

This is me at the beach up here in Washington several years ago. My grandparents brought me and I think my parents to the beach and it was really fun. It was cold of course, but I enjoyed myself. I wanna head back to the beach sometime. I miss it.

This is me and my cousin Drew when he was a bitty baby! We're at my grandparents condo in Oregon and it was a big family weekend. I really like this picture. It's so fun and candid.

November is here at last. And I am quite happy about it. :)
